Country acts lure fans into The Dog House

Ray Sanchez smiles when he thinks about The Dog House Bar & Grill's long, strange journey. The building near the corner of Owen Drive and Gillespie Street has evolved from florist and quickie wedding chapel to restaurant and bright orange biker bar, and, now, to a blossoming concert venue. "This place has an interesting history," said Sanchez, The Dog House's general manager. "But the future's what we're excited about."

In recent months, the venue, located around the corner from the Crown Center complex, has been a stopping point for national country acts from the '80s and '90s. Confederate Railroad performed in April, Little Texas played May 24, and Shenandoah is slated for June 13. All told, that's 26 Top 10 hits, three Academy of Country Music awards, three Country Music Association awards, one Grammy and millions of records sold.
